Chris Scaife, Carolina Smith de la Fuente
Hungover from the Matienzo fiestas, we made a 3:30pm start on this long term project. Last year, Carolina and her dad had found a pitch leading into the unknown. We bolted this pitch and found it to be 10m and quite sloping. It landed in a fairly impressive rift. We surveyed another 41m in there, before a 16cm calcite squeeze prevented any further progress. It looked as though the rift ended just past this squeeze, so probably wouldn’t be worth losing all the skin from your torso.
We also had a look at the top of a mud slope, which had an awkward boulder climb but we could see a big chamber beyond. I climbed up and found a chamber 15m x 15m and over 20m high. There is a small passage leading off, which we must go back and explore.
