We walked to Shuttleworth Pot from Bull Pot Farm and found it easily. Crossing Ease Gill near Hellot Scales Barn, there is an obvious wooden gate steeply uphill. Once through that several rocky outcrops are visible a short distance away and the entrance is a concrete tube with a manhole cover beside one of the outcrops.

Down the first two pitches, with rebelays every few metres, and at the bottom the slope leading down to the sump was very easily free-climbed, although there are bolts for a traverse to avoid this. The sump was impressive, and we climbed up a steep slope on the other side, which leads to Zig-Zag Passage.

Back on the other side of the bottom of the pitch, it’s almost like being in a show cave. We walked around with tape on either side and admired the formations and what is left of the dog skeleton.

On the way back, we set off up the dry Ease Gill and decided to have a quick look in Pegleg Pot. Well worth it. Just a short trip as we didn’t have hangers so couldn’t descend the pitch, but great fun with short crawls and climbs, and some aesthetically pleasing walking passage. Marvellous.
