CarolSmithParticipant
Don’t you mean Chris and Carol Scaife? Or is she one of those feminist types who doesn’t believe in taking a man’s name, as is traditional and proper?
Who would want to trade two surnames for one? And who would want to go through the faff of changing your name in two countries? Traditional and proper? I say practical.
Also I assume with Carol being self employed, it would be difficult to change her name. As people would know Carol by Carol’s original name.
You can have a professional name and a personal name, but, yeah, can’t be bothered.
Congrats Chris and Carol! Look forward to hearing about the wedding as well!
¡Gracias!
CarolSmithParticipantI’ve just realised I never commented on this…
0415’s resurvey is now complete. As Chris mentions, we couldn’t find the connection with Mostajo, which is a shame.
I only need to finish the drawing and write a new description. If work lets me have some free time I might be able to finish it before the end of the year.

Yesterday I discovered the pleasures of caving with a wetsuit. Hello, caving in wet caves in the UK.
Now I only need to work on those horrible small airspace ducks…CarolSmithParticipantAs someone who took part in the archaeological excavation (sounds cool, it’s not, I was in charge of clearing mud with a toothbrush…) I would like to point out that the cave was used since Neanderthal times to Medieval times (probably as the first church of the valley). Next to the calcified basket at the end of the cave there were some grains (old cultivars of wheat and millet) which have been dated to 0-1 CE, which suggests it was part of a Roman harvest offering to the Gods (according to Chuchi, the lead archaeologist of the dig).
There is another cave in Matienzo with paintings (clearer, as far as I remember, I was 14 the last time I went), but I’m afraid it is also locked. Too valuable to keep open, but not good enough to show to the public (according to the Cantabrian government…).
CarolSmithParticipantFour excellent trips. Robinson’s and Darnbrook were great fun, fantastic streamways.
With a few more rigging practices I might be able to help with the rigging in future trips. With a helmet, of course.
CarolSmithParticipantOh, it was a grim day. Simpsons certainly didn’t look like an appealing day out… But I want to do Simpsons this year and I have hope that the sun will eventually come out, one day, so I’ll be back.
The SRT training was very welcomed after a year without any decent SRT trips. Now I just need to learn how to rig!
PS: Daz_of_caving, don’t worry, I only got a scratched helmet…
CarolSmithParticipantA great day out. Crackpot is indeed a great cave to do with a cold. Exploring Fossdale Beck was fun too, thanks Don for the suggestion!
CarolSmithParticipantYep, I’m still in the process of (very slowly) drawing up the survey for 415.
I’m not good at drawing surveys…CarolSmithParticipantYes we did, Alex, Mr Scaife has forgotten that I was also on the Reñada trip on the 5th of August. Who did most of the digging? We’ll have to go back to survey those 20 m.
Wishing we could still be in Matienzo…
CarolSmithParticipantDon,
Swinsto in on my to-do list for this year. If Vicki wants to give it another go on drier conditions, we can organise another trip. -
