1st was a traverse/protection to a Y hang, pretty much as it’s shown on the topo? The first section isn’t really vertical enough to abseil/prusik.
Chris SharmanModeratorThe ‘guy called Mark’ was from MCG. Both he and I were frozen and bored after waiting on the loose and crumbly traverse over the 80m pitch while Alex did all the bolting. We spent 3 hours or so down there I think, of which around 10 minutes was actual caving. I should have learnt – I’d had a very similar trip the day before.
Chris SharmanModeratorYes, it was really sharp in the bottom section. Not 15-20 minutes though – just felt long because it never really got to hands and knees.
If I were ever to do it again (which I won’t) a ladder would be nice for the bottom, to save taking srt gear through the miserable crawl.Still, quite a nice trip, in parts.
I’m surprised our fail rate is that high Don – is that just the two of us?
Chris SharmanModeratorGood to know I amused you Chris – didn’t realise anyone was watching :)
Chris SharmanModeratorThey’re not bad, but the general looseness & mobility is slightly off-putting.
Chris SharmanModeratorHeadfirst seems remarkably unattractive – descending into water from a tight slot.
We’d have been fine if we’d just taken a rope through.12th July 2018 at 8:56 am in reply to: Crystal – Dog – Bucket – B*gger – Dog – Crystal (Saturday 7th July 2018) #6560Chris SharmanModeratorDon & I did White Scar 1 on Tuesday – couldn’t find 2 – think it may have been silted up a bit.
Chris SharmanModeratorIt didn’t seem particularly muddy when we were there, but when I got home my oversuit seemed to have been somewhere much muddier than I remember.
Not sure how long we were down – probably about 3 hours?Chris SharmanModeratorCan we see it on the private log?
15th January 2018 at 5:31 pm in reply to: Ireby Fell Cavern – Cripple Creek Route (13 January 2018) #5843Chris SharmanModeratorWhen we got to the in-situ rope it was fairly new, and certainly cleaner than Don’s so I didn’t see much point re-rigging.
The beer was fine in the Marton, although it is a bit gastro-pub.
A very fine trip.Chris SharmanModeratorSounds awesome.
Chris SharmanModeratorSounds like Swinsto was a much better choice given the weather.
Me, Pete, and his mate Ben Ross had a very pleasant and uneventful through trip.Chris SharmanModeratorThanks Alex – good write-up.
I wasn’t particularly well, having started a cold the night before – it got steadily worse, and I got sent home from work today.
Glad I wimped out when I did.
Was the second crawl a wide bedding, gravel-floored as I remembered?Chris SharmanModeratorHere’s my copy of Bob’s album.
If you can’t see it tell me (and friend me on facebook)Chris SharmanModeratorCan you see this ?
