Ah, wondered where you got bruised.
Fine trip, good write upChris SharmanModeratorNo, don’t do that Alex.
Don’t think we really want to start censoring reports, just because someone’s been a wuss – we can most of us wimp out sometimes.
Any trip report/thread is pure personal opinion – anyone who disagrees with an opinion can (and does) post a response.I don’t recall needing ‘coaxing’ on the 4th, but never mind. Getting back up that rift from the head of the 4th was definitely the hardest bit of the whole cave – don’t think anyone managed to take gear through without assistance.
Don & Chris K missed out – the duck was right at the end of the crawl – the 8th immediately followed – although after that there’s nothing except much more crawling. That’s why I turned round at the Passage of Slime: beyond was “a degenerating crawl” to the sump, and another hour’s crawling to the ends of Outer Slime – more tedium than challenge – so I guess Don & ChrisK turned round a fraction earlier, & Alex & Chris a bit later, but for much the same reasons.
Also a good dinner at the Italian in Ingleton
Chris SharmanModeratorNice to be appreciated :)
Managed to go caving with my phone in my fleece pocket – and it survived, despite the wet crawl.
Hopefully it’ll be warmer next week.
Good videoChris SharmanModeratorA fine trip, even if I did have to scoot off early.
Did wonder how awkward exiting Grange Rigg would be.Chris SharmanModeratorWell done Alex.
Entertaining trip.
Lots of colourful deposits – well worth a visit.Chris SharmanModeratorDan was busy, rigging 2 routes down??
I thought it was me & Alex on the North route, and Don & Dan on the East route. And Don, did I by any chance drop my works access fob in your car (black disc + blank bullet shaped thing)?
Chris SharmanModeratorWednesday-Saturday with Alex.
Sunday with Carol & Scaife.
Monday surface prospecting with Ali.
Loafing about indoors with MUSC on Tuesday.Good trip – definitely go again sometime.
Chris SharmanModeratorGood trip – and thanks for bringing my helmet. Bring one yourself next time
Chris SharmanModeratorhow rude!
I’m deeply offended.
I didn’t kick it, it was completely rotten, and just gave up as I leant over the pot. Consider yourself lucky I didn’t land on you.Chris SharmanModeratorYes, I stepped on a chockstone about 4m down the entrance, and it shifted, as did the quite large rock behind it, and a couple of tons of infill behind that.
I exited carefully and told the BPC.
You seem to have made quite good time after the blowhole – almost wish I’d come, but I was fairly cold and it was looking like a very late finish.
Chris SharmanModeratorThere was the bit where Alex got stuck and wanted my help
And the rigging squabble.
Chris SharmanModeratorAgree entirely – good trip.
And yes, the “safety” line at the ledge isn’t much good – a P hanger to clip into just back around the corner from the two for the bottom half would be much better.27th February 2015 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Bye George Pot and Misty Mountain Series, 21st of February #1057Chris SharmanModeratorFeel better now – done Hammer, Echo & Pen-y-ghent, & I think Yockenthwaite.
Although admittedly my fail:success ratio Birks Fell’s a fine trip too. Tick.
Can’t cave tomorrow – getting beaten up. Still available Sunday …
;)Chris SharmanModeratorSeen the straws before – yes, they are very fine.
Thought I’d give them a miss this time to be out on time.
I managed to leave my pantin in the car – good job it was only 80m.
Spent a bit of time looking for the way out, too – took me a while to find the traverse just below the entrance pitch.Chris SharmanModeratorno, not completely stupid (usually) – tried to follow the rope down the narrow bit, rather than traversing over to the wide bit.
